Assembly
The best option is to watch a video about assembling your Perspective Design Shovel.
There's also a language free version that you can watch.
For those that want step by step instructions you can view or even print the PDF or follow the instructions below.
Assembling your Perspective Design Shovel
Installing Insert Connectors - Initial Setup
The Insert connectors only need to be installed once, but note they are hard to remove.
Take notice of the quick release flaps, they should both face the same way, not opposite directions so you can easily release the handgrip and shovel later. If you get the orientation wrong then with some effort you can press the nibs in and pull the connector out and put it back in correctly. Try using chopsticks or something similar if you need help pushing the nibs in.
The connectors aren’t installed before sending as we don’t want to risk them getting damaged in transport. Before starting ensure you have all the expected parts.
Steps:
- With the Shaft [SH1], insert a Connector [IC1] into the tube and ensure the nibs lock into the holes in the aluminium shaft
- Insert the second Connector [IC1] taking note that the quick release flap should be oriented to be the same as the first, ideally downwards
Assembling your Perspective Design Shovel - For Use

For usage you want to attach the handgrip and shovel head to the shaft. You can use the shovel without installing the fastener pins, however it won’t be as secure.
Steps:
- Insert the Shaft [SH1] (with Insert Connector) into the Hand Grip [HG1] making sure the Connector quick release flap is facing down (is visible)
- Insert the other end of the Shaft [SH1] (with Insert Connector) into the Shovel Head [SSH] making sure the Connector quick release flap is also facing down (is visible)
- Insert the Fastener Pin [FP1] into the Hand Grip [HG1], taking note of the orientation. You’ll need to rotate the pin and push it in, so the nib seats fully into the corresponding notch hole.
- Insert the Fastener Pin [FP1] into the Shovel Head [SSH]. Again, taking note of the orientation, rotate the pin and seat it properly.
Your shovel is now ready to be used.
Disassembling your Perspective Design Shovel - For putting it away
You usually don’t need to remove the Hand Grip from the Shaft when you put it away, as leaving it on means you can hang it up. But taking it off is better when travelling, e.g in the back of the car.
Steps:
- Remove the Fastener Pin [FP1] from the Shovel Head [SSH]
- Press the Quick Release Flap and pull the Shovel Head [SSH] from the Shaft [SH1]
- (Optional) Remove the Fastener Pin [FP1] from the Hand Grip [HG1]
- (Optional) Press the Quick Release Flap and pull the Hand Grip [HG1] from the Shaft [SH1]
Installing the Aluminium Front Guard - Optional

The Aluminium Front Guard is optional. It makes shovelling sidewalks and pavements easier, but isn’t advisable on expensive decking or for sensitive applications. Similar to the Insert connectors, installing the Aluminium Front Guard is something that’s expected to be done only once, except when replacing it after extensive usage.
Be careful as the edge is sharp and can injure you. Wearing protective gloves is highly recommended.
Installation
- The Shovel head has a corresponding groove into which the front guard is to be seated.
- Install the Aluminum Front Guard [FG1], onto the front of the Shovel head [SSH], taking note to align with the groove. Some force is required to seat it.
Removing the Aluminium Front Guard
This operation is normally only performed when an front guard existing needs replacement. A guard should generally be replaced before is has worn down to the point it exposes any plastic.
Be particularly careful of sharp edges when prying off and extracting the worn out guard. Wearing protective gloves is highly recommended. A flat head screwdriver can be useful when prying loose the old guard.
Be careful not to damage the plastic shovel edge to which the new guard will be affixed.
Step:
- Pry the Aluminium Front Guard [FG1] from the Shovel Head [SSH]
